HIT, Inc. started on August 20th 1979. Don Braun, Harriet McFerran, Robert Licari, Cameron Clemens, Marion Cary, Erwin Reich, and James Kloster were busy establishing Housing, Industry, Training Incorporated which has now been retired and is now known as simply as HIT, Inc.
These original board members represented the two local citizen groups of the Mandan ARC and the Bismarck/Mandan Association of the Handicapped, created HIT to provide exactly what the name states... housing, industry, and training opportunities for individuals with physical and/or developmental disabilities. HIT's first funded program, a federal Grant of $166,000 to start an independent living center was secured in 1980 and hired HIT's first employees.
